FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Good NLP training is sometimes hard to find because NLP and "NLP" are two different things. My recommendation is to affiliate with a Bandler trained trainer. Also, Robert Dilts' training in Santa Cruz is fabulous. John Grinder's training in the UK is also great. I would also ask to provide references from clients. In order for a trainer to be a good one, he or she must have a successful practice. They need to have a track record with clients, a track record of successful trainings and be able to answer the question: how do you structure your training? If they tell you that you learn a lot of techniques but fail to mention the importance of the process and structure, find another trainer. Good luck!
Yes. Anyone who has a brain can learn NLP. NLP is widely used in business to improve management, sales and achievement performance, inter-personal skills, in education to better understand learning styles, develop rapport with students and parents and to aid in motivation. NLP is based on modeling. When taught the way Richard Bandler created it, students learn on many levels all at once; other than on the conscious level (through installation of information), demonstration (modeling), cognitive training and practice. Once you have learned this way, you will become "unconsciously competent" in this methodology, naturally able to use it in your work with your clients and on yourself. Reading books is not an effective way to learn as it is a one sided learning method based on deductive thinking process. NLP is an inductive methodology. To learn it, take a licensed Practitioner training and a licensed Master Practitioner training.
Live with Power Licensed Practitioner training is a prerequisite for a Master Practitioner training . A well designed Practitioner training will give you all the tricks of the trade and a methodology to apply them. A Master Practitioner training gives you a platform to become an artist using these methodologies. At Live with Power we create sophisticated scenarios that Master Practitioner students creatively solve using a whole range of methods. Here you are encouraged to step into your creativity, use your intuition and play with ideas, keeping in mind that enjoying the process is a prerequisite. If you want to become exquisite with these tools, take Live with Power licensed Master Practitioner training.
Traditional Psychology focuses on the reason for human behaviors. According to the traditional model for human behavior, psychologists believe that once the original "cause" for the behavior is determined, the behavior shall change. The process of discovery could take years and often results in questionable results. Psychiatry focuses on the chemical intervention. Drugs alter the chemistry of the brain and according to Psychiatrists, through chemically altering the ecology of the brain, lead to the relief of the symptoms. NLP focuses on how people create their experience and make decisions. Once we know the "How", we can change it, leading to permanent and lasting change. No human behavior is random. It always has structure. We have the tools to change the structure and create a change. Often people feel "stuck" in a situation. Through understanding how people create a "stuck" state, we help them see more possibilities, which often is just what they needed. In other words, even though the three disciplines focus on human behavior, the attention is applied to a different aspect of it.
Your brain works faster than you think. It also operates within a framework of patterns. Patterns remain as long as their structure remains intact. Once you change the structure, the pattern ceases to exist. Our methodologies allow us to get into the depth of a structure and change it at that level. That change happens very fast.
A good NLP training has an inherently built structure. It is taught on many levels simultaneously; other than conscious level, via installation, demonstration, cognitive training and practice. The structure builds upon itself so that, at the end, participants achieve competency in applying it. "Aha!" moments are common at the end. If the training is not built around a logically inherent structure, results cannot be achieved.
There are many NLP practitioners and even trainers out there who do not understand the methodology or the principles by which it was created. Therefore they do not teach it the way it was designed to be taught. I would encourage you to make sure you take the training from an accredited source. Affiliation with an International NLP Society is the best start. There are many reasons the techniques you applied did not generate the change you intended. What may not have worked in your case is not NLP but the strategy you used to apply it. Most likely you focused on being correct in applying the "right" technique but did not pay attention to deciphering the structure of experience you were attempting to change. There can be, for example, three people exhibiting phobia symptoms. Despite the fact that the overt symptoms seem the same, the way they created it in the first place may be different. Also, they may think they have a phobia and search for the reason of having it, but do not have it. Before applying the traditional Phobia Cure, you must be sure that what you are attempting to cure exists and when it does, how did they do it.
NLP is the study of the structure of human experience, a set of techniques to make rapid and permanent changes to that structure (leading to a change in the experience), and a philosophy framing a belief that humans are able to express their full potential (given an appropriate for internal structure to manifest it).We construct all our experiences; good and bad based on beliefs. There is always an underlying belief which serves as a foundation to all subsequent beliefs and resultant strategies and behaviors, and end "results" (or outcomes) which we define as "good" or "bad". When we understand the structure or a model of any experience, we can delve deep into the structure and change it. As a result, we experience a rapid and permanent shift in the resultant experience. In that sense, NLP is also a set of techniques which we can apply to make those changes. Keep in mind that techniques are useless unless applied in the context of understanding the structure of experience we want to change. That said, NLP is also a philosophy. We believe and had proven that change can be achieved quickly and effortlessly. We believe in human potential, and consider a lack of "success" as only an evidence of having created a poor structure (based on some kind of nonsense) for our experience. We also have the tools to change that pattern and turn impossibilities into possibilities.
We see many different types of clients including students who want to achieve better results academically, individuals who want to gain confidence in social situations and at work, people wanting to improve their communication skills, sales skills, people with post traumatic stress disorder, clinical depression, anxiety, phobia, addictive behaviors such as overeating compulsive shopping, gambling, anorexia, negative relationships, people wanting to improve their memory, learn how to photo read and spell, people who feel stuck in their lack of progress, individuals who wish to become more creative.
We are licensed by the International NLP Society and Dr. Richard Bandler, the creator of NLP. We had been trained by Dr. Bandler and adhere to the methodology of teaching NLP the right way. We are always upgrading our skills and stay on top of new developments. Our mission is to provide the highest level of NLP training, always being aware of the student's progress. We make sure all our students learn it and are able to use it. We encourage students to ask questions and take the time to respond. We believe that asking questions is a valuable way to learn new things, and we use the question/answer periods as a platform to teach and demonstrate skills. We encourage creativity as we believe the more creative a practitioner is, the more effective he or she is. Testimonials from our students have been extremely positive. Our referral base is thriving which is a testimonial to the quality of our trainings.
Remember to have fun while learning NLP. If you don't enjoy what you are doing, we suggest you do something else. Prospective practitioners often pay attention to the non relevant (at the time) aspects of the process while forgetting the most important thing: the process. In our view it is useless to remember the linguistic terminology of the Meta Model or the Milton Model, for example, if you do not understand the process and do not know why you are using the Meta Model or the Milton Model. No NLP technique is effective in the absence of understanding of the process. We teach the structure of the model while applying the methodology. "Getting" the logical process is a requirement to remembering the terminology. Often we meet students who had taken a practitioner training before, becoming experts at remembering sophisticated terminology. At the same time they have no idea why to use these patterns, when to use them and even how to decide to use them. At Live with Power we make sure students know the structure, can logically apply the methods and are able to construct the model for a desired experience. They also learn the terminology along the way. We also encourage generative thinking. Have fun with the techniques, enjoy the process of change and remember there are many ways to use these methods.
